Groundbreaking of Hanoi Urban Railway Project, Line No. 5: Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac

The Hanoi Urban Railway Line No. 5 (Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac) starts at the Van Cao – Hoang Hoa Tham intersection, Ba Dinh District, and ends at Station S20 in Hoa Lac and Yen Xuan Communes, Quoc Oai District. The project is invested by the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board, with a total investment of over VND 72,000 billion (approximately USD 2.66 billion).

The project has a total length of approximately 40 km, making it one of the longest metro lines in Hanoi, including about 6.56 km of underground sections, 5.2 km of elevated sections, and 27.8 km of at-grade sections, with 20 stations and 2 main depots. The metro line uses a 1,435 mm standard-gauge track (international standard), with a maximum design speed of 120 km/h for at-grade sections and 90 km/h for underground sections.

The project officially broke ground on December 19, 2025, and is expected to commence operations in 2030.
