Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong Railway Project, Component 1

The Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong Railway Project passes through six provinces/cities including Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, and Hai Phong. It is a passenger and freight railway line connecting the Lao Cai border gate with Hanoi and Lach Huyen Port (Hai Phong). The project includes a main line length of 390.9 km and 27.9 km of branch lines, built to the 1,435 mm standard gauge (international standard), with design speeds ranging from 80 km/h to 160 km/h depending on each section.

The project has a total investment of over VND 203,200 billion (approximately USD 8 billion) and is implemented under the public investment model.

Component 1 of the project is scheduled to break ground on December 19, 2025, focusing on the construction of station infrastructure and station squares along the route, with a total investment of approximately VND 3,300 billion. The main stations under this component include:

  • Lao Cai Station (Lao Cai Province)
  • Phu Tho Station (Phu Tho Province)
  • Bac Hong Station (Hanoi)
  • Luong Tai Station (Hung Yen Province)
  • Hai Duong South Station (Hai Phong City)

The entire railway line is expected to be completed by 2030.
