Groundbreaking of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong) Project in Ho Chi Minh City

The Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong) project is an urban railway (metro) line with its starting point at Ben Thanh Station (Ho Chi Minh City) and its terminal at the Tham Luong Operations Center (District 12). The project is invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, with a total investment capital of VND 47,900 billion (approximately USD 2.1 billion).

The line has a total length of nearly 11.3 km, comprising 9.26 km of underground section, 0.85 km of elevated section, and 0.9 km of at-grade section connecting to the depot. The project has been adjusted to enhance automation, operating under the GoA4 standard, enabling fully driverless operation. The alignment at Ben Thanh Station is designed to directly connect with Metro Line No. 1 and allow for future interconnection with other metro lines.

The project officially broke ground on January 15, 2026, and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2030.
